Commercial Concept
A community of single moms working collectively through Project Single Moms ™, which is a national movement designed to empower, educate, engage, energize, equip and enhance the quality of life for single mothers come together as one united voice to exclaim to our communities that “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.” Project Single Moms™ is a program of My Daughter’s Keeper, Inc., a national 501c3 educational and self-development non-profit organization based in New Jersey.
We are simply tired and fed up of reading and hearing about the demise of our youth, particularly within our urban communities on a daily basis. Our network of Project Single Moms™ representing the State of New Jersey are tired of being plagued by daily reports of gang violence; teen pregnancies; and random, senseless acts of violence involving our children and youth, particularly those of color. The city of Camden, NJ still reports the most murders in the entire country. The city of Irvington wears the crown for the most frequent, violent gang activity. Most recently, capturing the attention of national media was the case of the three college students murdered execution-style and one clinging on to life in Newark, NJ. We read the reports and witnessed the outcry of the Newark community pleading for the madness to stop. Many community activists and parents place blame on the city’s administration and the police department for not protecting its citizens.
Project Single Moms™ believes that the blame must be properly positioned and placed on the parents of the young people who hold our communities hostage with their drug trafficking, gang violence and their show of total disregard and disrespect for human life. Parents must become more accountable for the actions of their misguided and often emotionally neglected children. Through the “I DID MY SHARE” commercial, Project Single Moms make a personal plea to parents to step up and become more responsible and accountable for raising their children to become productive members of society. As a community, we will never be able to fix our children until we begin to repair the family structure. As adults and parents, we have the power to heal many of our community’s ills when we finally realize that it is not the responsibility of the church, schools, police departments, juvenile justice systems, city or state administration to raise our children.
As parents, we must become proactive instead of reactive. We must seek out help and support before we lose our children to the streets. We can not continue to surrender to our children. WE MUST RECLAIM OUR POWER AS PARENTS! Working together, we can make a difference in the lives of our youth, strengthen our families and communities. There is a myth that children reared in single parent households are disadvantaged and more likely to become a statistic (teen parent, incarcerated, gang affiliated, high school drop-out, etc.) Project Single Moms™ is working to dispel this myth and to communicate to the world that there are many single moms who are raising productive, healthy children on their own. If we can do it, other parents can do it too! We are doing our share not to add to those statistics previously mentioned. We are pleading to other parents to step up and do their share. This is the core message we seek to communicate to the parents that view the commercial through a parent-to-parent, in-your-face direct approach. It is our prayer that parents will feel the emotion, pain and sense of urgency expressed in the faces and voices of the single moms to move forward accepting responsibility and taking action to bring forth positive change in the lives of their children and in their communities.
